Born(1935) in a tiny hamlet in Madurai District, Elamaran has been a Maduraiite throughout. His parents belonged to the working class, honestly struggling to rise from the lowest rung of the social ladder. He held the topmost rank in every Standard in Nadar Vidya Salai. He passed the SSLC Exam(1952) as one of the brightest students of St.Mary's High School. He did hisIntermediate (1952-54) and B.A. ( Maths) (1954-56) in the American College that offered him merit-cum-means scholarship. In the final year, he was unanimously chosen to be the student-chairman of the Thiruvalluvar Kazhagam a coveted honour in that reputed institution. He showed his mettle in inviting Periyar E.V.Ramasamy to the college and presiding over the mammoth gathering. As the best Arts graduate of the year (1956), he was the receipient of Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar Prize that year.

He joined M.A.(Maths) in Madras Christian College but was forced to give up his studies. In order to accomplish the elusive M.A. degree by private appearance, he joined the B.T. degree course at Thiagarajar College of Preceptors. In 1958, he began his career as a graduate teacher in M.N.U.J.N. High School. In 1962, he creditably passed M.A.(Tamil). Then he became the headmaster of V.H.N. High School and by his hard work, he raised the school to the topmost rank in the district. The new-born Madurai University permitted eligible Teacher candidates to sit for an additional M.A. degree examination by private study. Availing himself of the oppurtunity, he passed M.A.(English) degree examination (1969).

The same year he became Lecturer in English, Sarawathi Narayanan College. On the advice of Principal Dr.T.Sivasankaran, he registered for Ph.D. Initiated into Comparative Literature by Dr.T.P.Meenakshi Sundaranar the eminent multi-linguist, he started research on 'A comparative study of Robert Burns and Bharathi Dasan'. It was a challenging research topic and Madurai Kamaraj University awarded him Ph.D in 1987. He has learnt much from his guide Dr.V.Sachithanandan and the Doctoral Committee member Dr.'Tamilannal' Rm.Periya Karuppan. Then, he was a Selection Grade Lecturer in the Department of English and Comparative Literature of Madurai Kamaraj University on deputation during 1987-90. He rejoined the parent college and retired from service in 1994. He has been doing voluntary social service all along.

'Edipus காம்ப்ளெக்ஸ்' பற்றி நன்கு விளங்கிக் கொண்டால் அதற்கு இணையான ஒன்றே 'electra காம்ப்ளெக்ஸ்' என்று மிக எளிதில் புரிந்து கொண்டு விடலாம். Sigmund Freud தமது உளப்பகுப்பாய்வு முறையில் அடிமனத்தின் ஆழத்தில் புதைந்து கிடக்கும் மன நிலைகளை விவரிக்கும் போது 'Edipus' உள்ளுறு மன நிலை என அவற்றின் ஒரு வகைக்குப் பெயரிட்டார். பண்டை கிரேக்க நாடக பாத்திரமான edipus மன்னரின் பெயரை இணைத்து அத்தொடர் உருவானது.
